Black Hills State University Library Renovation

The comprehensive renovation of the three-story BHSU Library turned an aging, enclosed building into a bright and inviting academic center. Working closely with the university, our team and Ratio Architects explored a range of planning and design options to understand how the library could better support today’s students. The final design adds new perimeter windows, a second-level addition with more study space, and full updates to meet current building and accessibility standards. The reimagined library brings student support services, maker labs, media production rooms, and collaborative study areas together in one place. The result is a cohesive, student-centered facility that reflects the university’s goals for modern learning, social connection, and research.
