Rural America Initiatives
Year: 2019
Location: Rapid City, SD
The Rural America Initiatives facility brings the organization’s Head Start and Early Head Start programs together in one location to better support growing enrollment and family services. Working closely with RAI, our team developed a layout inspired by the Native American medicine wheel, organizing two classroom wings around shared administrative and support spaces. The design focuses on creating safe, welcoming, and engaging environments for infants, toddlers, and young children, with classrooms, outdoor play areas, family spaces, and on-site services. A recent addition of eight Early Head Start classrooms builds on the original concept and expands RAI’s capacity to serve more families. The completed facility provides a stable, efficient, and culturally grounded home for the programs that support children and families across the Rapid City community.
