Spearfish Creekside Elementary

Year: 2011

Location: Spearfish, SD

The design of Creekside Elementary started with extensive research and analysis of several potential project locations and multiple community meetings to ensure the first new educational structure by the school district since the 1960's hit the target for what the district would need for the next several decades. The 3rd grade through 5th grade elementary school was a collaborative effort between Williams & Associates Architecture (now 3Peak Architecture) and DLR Group Architects. In addition to meeting very tight budget requirements the new school provided space and future growth potential so the district could halt use of the former high school which was being used for these elementary grades. The school is laid out utilizing wings for each grade and a multi-purpose commons area at the main entry which opens up to both the music room on the east side and the gymnasium on the west side. 3Peak Architecture designed two additions to the building since the original design for additional classrooms and storage space.
